DEBRA JEAN WITHROW SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE
The annual Debra Jean Withrow Scholarship Silent Auction and Cookout was held and raised $3,328. The annual $500 scholarship is awarded to a local nursing student enrolled in the Frontier Community College Nursing Program. Currently applications are available to be picked up at the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Surgery Department or Frontier Community College Nursing Department. Scholarship entry deadline is November 30. The scholarship selection committee will determine the recipient in December. The scholarship selection committee reviews the scholarship applications that include an essay, two letters of recommendation, proof of full-time status, second year registered nursing student, and proof of their current overall GPA. The Fairfield Memorial Hospital Surgery Staff would like to thank community members, area businesses, the local medical staff, FCC Student Nurses Association, Bob Murphy, and Leroy Moore for helping to support the Silent Auction and Cookout that is held each year to raise funds for this scholarship. Until this scholarship fund becomes self supporting donations are welcome and are 501(c)(3) tax deductable. Debra Jean Withrow was a nurse for over 30 years serving several area hospitals including St. Mary’s Hospital, Centralia, Crossroads Community Hospital, Mt. Vernon, and Fairfield Memorial Hospital. She had specialized experience in obstetrics, emergency room, and the operating room. Withrow was a huge supporter of local nursing programs. At the time of her death, she was the reining president of the Southern Illinois Chapter of the Association of Peri-Operative Nurses (AORN).
