DEBRA JEAN WITHROW SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO SARAH LEMOND, LPN
Sarah LeMond, LPN, daughter of Gina and Steve LeMond of Fairfield, was named as the recipient of the fourth annual Debra Jean Withrow Scholarship, an annual $500 scholarship that is awarded to a local nursing student enrolled in the Frontier Community College Nursing Program. The scholarship selection committee reviews the scholarship applications that include an essay, two letters of recommendation, proof of full-time, second year registered nursing student, and proof of their current overall GPA.
Kathleen Helstley, RN, CNOR, OR Nurse Manager at Fairfield Memorial Hospital, said, “On behalf of the selection committee, we are proud to provide this scholarship in memory of our very beloved friend and co-worker, Debbie. We feel we chose an individual who has the knowledge, skill, and human touch, to advance herself in nursing and will provide patients the highest quality of care.”
“This scholarship is a blessing to me. It means a lot not only because it is helping me through college, but it is also a token of appreciation from God, and I am very much honored to be getting this particular award,” stated Sarah LeMond, LPN.
“I love to help people and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. With this scholarship, I feel I can give back to society in so many different ways. I have learned that nursing is a journey in itself and staying positive and believing in yourself is key. Removing anything in my path that may cause me to trip and fall will help me to stay motivated and focused on becoming the best nurse I can be. This scholarship is only the beginning of a wonderful career in the health field. Nursing has changed me and my outlook on life in so many ways, and I believe that this scholarship will only help me toward achieving bigger and better things,” added Sarah LeMond, LPN.
“The Fairfield Memorial Hospital Surgery Staff thanks the community for helping to support the silent auction that is held each year and this year’s cookout to raise funds for the scholarship. This year’s silent auction and cookout raised $3,328,” stated Kathleen Heltsley, RN, CNOR, OR Nurse Manager at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
Until this scholarship fund becomes self-supporting, donations are welcome and are 501(c)(3) tax deductable. Checks can be made payable to Debra Jean Withrow Scholarship Fund and should be mailed to Fairfield Memorial Hospital, c/o Kathleen Heltsley, 303 NW 11th Street, Fairfield, IL 62837.
