FMH AUGUST CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Golf Ball Drop:

How would you like the chance to win some money while supporting a worthy cause? The FMH Foundation is hosting a Golf Ball Drop on August 1st at 1pm on the FMH front lawn. The person whose golf ball drops closest to the center of the target will win half of the money that is raised for this event. The more chances you buy to win the better your odds! Tickets are 1 for $5 or 6 for $20. To purchase tickets you can stop by FMH Administration, Foundation Office, or any FMH Foundation member. Golf Tournament:

Fairfield Memorial Hospital Foundation is holding its Fifteenth Annual Golf Scramble to raise funds to help support the expanding growth of the hospital. The golf scramble will be held at Fairfield Golf Course on August 2nd from 7:30am – 5pm. For more information about registering to play and/or to be a sponsor of this event, please contact Mariah McDaniel at 618-847-8297.

Fairfield Memorial Hospital to host PALS for (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Training:

Fairfield Memorial Hospital will hold the next Pediatric Advanced Life Support class on August 2nd at 9a.m.   The cost is $35 for the PALS course.  Should a CPR card be needed, there will be an additional $15 charge. These classes will be held in the FMH Educational Annex Building. If you would like to learn more or register for the course, please contact Deb Spillman, CMSRN, FMH Clinical Practice Coordinator, at 618-847-8241. Please register at least one week prior to class, if possible.

3D Mammography Mobile Event in Carmi on August 3rd:

Fairfield Memorial Hospital will have their Mobile Mammography at the Egyptian Health Department in Carmi on Saturday, August 3rd, with appointments beginning at 8:00a.m. No physician order needed for those who are over the age of 40.  It must have been at least one year since your last Mammogram.  Patients are asked to bring their insurance card, photo ID, and doctor’s contact information.  This event is for annual screening Mammograms only. Individuals can call the FMH Diagnostic Imaging Department at 618-847-8249 to secure an appointment with one of FMH’s skilled technologists. Walk-Ins are also welcome until 11am. After 11am, patients will be seen by appointment only.

Multiple Sclerosis Support Group:

The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Support Group meeting will be Saturday, August 3rd from 11:00am-Noon, located in the Harlan Yates Board Room located in the FMH Medical Arts Complex. Meghan Byars, Pharmacist, will be a guest speaker at this meeting. The MS Support Group meets the first Saturday of each month. CPR Classes:

Fairfield Memorial Hospital holds free CPR Classes monthly on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 9:30a.m in the 2nd Floor Education Room.  You must pre-register by calling 618-847-8367.  This month’s CPR class scheduled for Wednesday, August 7th is full but we do have spaces available in the September 4th class.    

Cancer Care Support Group:

Fairfield Memorial Hospital Cancer Support Group is cancelled for the month of August. The next Cancer Support Group meeting will be held on Thursday, September 12th. Fairfield Memorial Hospital holds a Cancer Support Group meeting once a month on the second Thursday of the each month from 6:00p.m.-7:00p.m. in the Medical Arts Complex Education Room. First Aid/CPR Class:

Fairfield Memorial Hospital is offering First Aid/CPR Certification to the public free of charge. The class will be held on August 9th from 8:00am – Noon in the FMH Education Annex Building (former Union Hall) located on 10th Street. For more information or to pre-register call (618) 847-8367. Pre-registration is required.

Diabetes Support Group:

Join FMH on Thursday, August 15th for the Diabetes Support Group Meeting. Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s certified Diabetes Educator, Stephen Welty, RN, CDE. This month’s topic will be “How Diabetes Works in the Body”. These meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at 4:00p.m.in the FMH Medical Arts Complex Education Room.

Better Breathers Club:

Join FMH on Monday, August 19th for the next meeting of the Better Breathers Club. If you, or someone you know, is living with a chronic lung disease, such as, COPD (which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis) pulmonary fibrosis or lung cancer, consider joining us at this welcoming support group. Learn better ways to cope with your diagnosis and live life to the fullest. FMH Carla Dunahay, PTA will be discussing “Pulmonary Rehab, Breathing Exercises, and Energy Conservation” on August 19th at 3pm in the Medical Arts Complex Education Room. Coffee Club:

Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s Senior Life Solutions will hold the next Coffee Club from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. on August 22nd. The Coffee Club will meet in the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Cafe and is open to anyone that would like to attend. You do not have to be a participant in the Senior Life Solutions program to attend. Free blood pressure checks and refreshments will also be offered at the Coffee Club. We look forward to seeing you there!

Dementia Caregivers Support Group:

Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s Dementia Caregivers Support Group will meet on August 22nd at 1:30pm in the Horizon Healthcare Medical Arts Complex Education Rooms.  Light refreshments will be served. These meetings will be held every 4th Thursday of the month.  To learn more information about this support group, contact Mariah Minor, RN BSN, Skilled Care Unit Nurse Leader, at 618-847-8328.

School and Sport Physicals

Fairfield Memorial Hospital is providing a school and sports physical for all ages in different areas. The fee for the physical is $25. Please contact 618-842-4617 for any questions.

5K Trick or Trot/Kids Fun Run:

Save the Date for the 2nd Annual FMH 5K Trick or Trot/Kids Fun Run! It will be held on Saturday, October 26th starting at 8a.m. Fairfield Memorial staff will also have plenty of fun activities planned for some family fun. Some of the activities will be soda pop ring toss, fall course, toilet paper toss, teddy bear surgery, fun picture contest along the route, straw/spider races, cookie decorating, basket toss, trunk or treat, pin the bone on the skeleton and much more!
