FMH HOLDS CANCER SURVIVOR CELEBRATION DINNER
Fairfield Memorial Hospital held their Annual Cancer Survivor Celebration Dinner for local residents Monday night. Many survivors and their guests attended the event held at the Community of Christ Family Life Center in Fairfield.
The celebratory evening began with a welcome by Master of Ceremony, Dave Land, followed by the invocation by Reverend Carroll Kakac, and a lovely meal prepared by the Community of Christ Church. After dinner, two new physicians, Jane Grace Manalo, M.D. Medical Oncologist, of Cancer Care Specialist of Central Illinois, S.C., and Marla Lafikes, M.D., Family Practice Physician, of Horizon Healthcare, were introduced to those in attendance and each shared some of their screening recommendations and the advancements in cancer research. Following the physicians, a few words were given by young survivor, Kelby Rush, 8-year-old son of Kelly and Shawn Rush of Springerton, who left the group with an inspiring message of hope. After the wonderful presentation by the young survivor, Heather Rice, of White County, provided vocal entertainment, in addition to her own inspiring story.
Katherine Bunting, FMH CEO, said, “We are very thankful to have all these survivors together to celebrate their life at this special dinner. As healthcare workers, we understand the hardships many of these survivors have gone through during their treatments to overcome the obstacles of cancer. It is an honor for our hospital and staff to host this extraordinary event to recognize these very special individuals.”
