FMH MAY CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Cancer Care Support Group:

Fairfield Memorial Hospital holds a Cancer Support Group meeting once a month on the second Thursday of the each month from 6-7 p.m. in the Medical Arts Complex (MAC) Community Education Room, with the next meeting being held, Thursday, May 11th

Coffee Club:

Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s Senior Life Solutions hosts a Coffee Club from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. on the upcoming dates: Thursday, May 18th and Thursday, June 15th. The Coffee Club meets at the Kontiki and is open to older adults. 

CPR Classes:

Fairfield Memorial Hospital holds CPR Classes monthly on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m.  You must preregister by calling 618-847-8243.  This month’s CPR class is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3rd.

Multiple Sclerosis Support Group:

The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Support Group will meet Saturday, May 6th from 11 a.m. - 12 noon, in the FMH Medical Arts Complex. The MS Support Group meets the first Saturday of each month.

Diabetes Support Group:

There will NOT be a Meeting this month, however, the Diabetes Support Group Meetings are regularly held at FMH on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the FMH Medical Arts Complex Community Education Room.  The next meeting will be held June 6th.

Nursing Scholarship Deadline:

This year Fairfield Memorial Hospital has decided to enhance efforts of fostering future clinical professionals by offering a Nursing Scholarship Program. Students who are interested in applying for the FMH Nursing Scholarship will need to fill out a Nursing Scholarship Application that can be found on the Fairfield Memorial Hospital website under the Career Opportunities tab. https://www.fairfieldmemorial.org/content/career-opportunities.  The following items are required: scholarship application, 2 paragraphs on your philosophy of customer service, two (2) letters of recommendation, and transcripts from all educational institutions attended.  All of the documents required, along with the application, should be to be returned in a sealed envelope and sent to: Fairfield Memorial Hospital | Attn: Human Resource Department | 303 NW 11th Street, Fairfield IL, 62837 by the deadline of May 15th.
 
Applications are due by May 15th each year, so keep this in mind for future students.  Interviews with the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Scholarship Committee will be conducted in early June.  
 

Health Seminars:

Fairfield Memorial Hospital and Frontier Community College offer Health Education Seminars on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.  The May Health Seminar will be held at the FCC Bobcat Den on Tuesday, May 16th.   Speakers will be focusing on sports performance, fitness and exercise, preventing a repetitive sports injury, strength and conditioning, supporting the body naturally before and after exercise and during injury recovery, and how the proper alignment of the spine helps prevent injury.  The line-up of speakers include: Staci McGill, PTA, of Fairfield Memorial Hospital; Sarah Slunaker, ATC; Steven Miller, DC; Luke Harl, Strength and Conditioning Coach at FCC; and Michelle Ward, Wellness Advocate. 

“A Matter of Balance” Program for Senior Adults:

Many older adults experience a fear of falling. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. To address this concern, Fairfield Memorial Hospital will be offering an A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls program that is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults.  A Matter of Balance includes eight two-hour sessions for a small group led by trained facilitators from FMH, Susie Devoy, RN, Director of Senior Life Solutions and Jennifer Bower, PTA, Director of Therapy Services. The first A Matter of Balance Fall Program will begin on Tuesday, May 23 and will meet each Tuesday and Thursday for four weeks from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the Kontiki in Fairfield.  This nationally recognized program is being brought to you by Fairfield Memorial Hospital.  To register for these A Matter of Balance program call 618-847-8298.

During the 8 week course, participants will learn to:

  • View falls as controllable
  • Set goals for increasing activity
  • Make changes to reduce fall risk at home
  • Exercise to increase strength and balance

The program was designed to benefit community-dwelling older adults who:

  • Are concerned about falls
  • Have sustained falls in the past
  • Restrict activities because of concerns about falling
  • Are interested in improving flexibility, balance and strength
  • Are age 60 or older, ambulatory and able to problem solve

Fairfield Memorial Hospital is dedicated to providing this education and will be offering another session in the Fall in Albion.

Reduced Rate Lab Testing

Fairfield Memorial Hospital will be holding Reduced Rate Labs May 15 - 19 from 7 – 10 a.m., at FMH, 8:30 - 10 a.m. at Horizon Healthcare, and May 15, 17, and 19 from 7 - 9 a.m. in Albion at the Edwards County Health Department.  No Appointment Needed!

Labs that are being reduced include:

If you are interested, go directly to the laboratory office at Fairfield Memorial Hospital, Horizon Healthcare or the Edwards County Health Department in Albion. You should not have food or drink after midnight. Payment is due at the time of service.  Results of the test will be mailed directly to your home.
