Skilled Care Unit Secretary- Full Time
Full Time; Non- Exempt
Provides indirect patient care in the Skilled Nursing Facility setting. Meets the communication needs of the patient, family, and departmental staff. Prepares and compiles records in the facility. Initiates directions from physician and nursing staff. Maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing, and hospital policies and procedures and standards.
Nature of Work: Prepares medical records for discharged residents and new admissions. Maintain medical records. Maintains log book, noting the admission, discharge, and transfer of residents. Maintains unit stats/correlates with nursing staff. Obtains appropriate nursing staff to assist residents/physicians in the care of the patient, decisions made reflect knowledge of facts and good judgement within scope of practice. Transcribes physician’s orders on to MAR within one hour after being written, documents medications on to Medication Treatment Record and notifies nursing staff appropriately of new, changed, or discontinued orders. Obtains requested items from Laboratory, Central Service, Pharmacy, or other departments. Communicates appropriately and clearly to nurse manager, team leader, co-workers and physicians. Consults other departments, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the resident’s needs. Orders supplies 2 times weekly; obtain put away orders, as required. Retrieves all lab results from printer, and brings the results to the attention of the charge nurse. Places final copy on chart, removes interim reports. Demonstrates ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations. Treats residents and their families with respect and dignity; ensures confidentiality of resident’s records.
Qualifications: As a representative of FMH and the Skilled Care Unit, a friendly and welcoming approach to patients, families, physicians and nursing staff is essential. Excellent written communication skills are required. Strict confidentiality in preserving medical information is required. Strict preservation of patient’s privacy is required.
Previous experience is a plus.
